Olive oil serves as a simple and effective facial cleanser.
Extra virgin olive oil is a natural and inexpensive moisturizer. When this kitchen staple mixes with Castor oil, the combination serves as a surprisingly effective facial cleanser. Though many commercial products boast oil-free beauty items, oil is actually beneficial to your skin, as it helps to dissolve impurities. Oil also helps stop bacteria and dirt, the primary causes of acne and blackheads, from infiltrating pores. Clean your face using this olive oil method once each day, preferably at night.
1 Mix one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil with one teaspoon of Castor oil. You can use smaller amounts, but the ratio must be one part Castor oil to three parts olive oil for those with dry skin. Mix a ratio of three parts Castor oil to one part olive oil if you have oily skin.
2 Wash your hands with a basic mild soap and water. You will use your hands to apply the oil, so they must be clean to ensure that the oils are not contaminated.
3 Run hot water for a moment to ensure it is warm enough, wet a soft washcloth with the hot water. Wring out the excess water.
1 Pour the extra virgin olive oil/Castor oil mixture into the palm of your hand. Use an amount equal to the size of a quarter. A larger amount is acceptable, but try not to waste too much for conservation purposes.
2 Warm the oil by rubbing your hands together. Rub the oil mixture on your face.
3 Gently massage the oil into the skin by smoothing your fingers over the face. Be sure to use gentle motions that are firm and deep. Do not use quick or rough motions. Continue massaging the face for about one minute.
4 Place the warm washcloth over your face. This allows the steam to open the pores and release any impurities in the skin. Leave the washcloth over the face until it feels cool.
5 Use the washcloth to gently wipe away any extra oil on the face. Rinse the washcloth in warm water, wring out the excess water and place the washcloth on the face again. Leave the washcloth on until it is cool, then gently wipe the face again. Complete this process two or three more times.
6 If skin feels too dry after the application, place a dab of the oil mixture on the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. Gently pat your hands over your face to distribute this small amount of oil.
Extra virgin olive oil is not the only oil used for this cleansing method. Other options are sunflower seed oil, jojoba oil, grape seed oil and flax seed oil.
Do not scrub the face. This can cause redness and irritation.
